Cougar has been working hard to take a piece of the gaming peripherals market, and its latest mouse appears to follow that effort. The company’s new flagship gaming mouse is the Cougar 550M, which features a high-end sensor, tough body and RGB lighting, all in a no-nonsense package. Well, we’re not quite sure what Cougar means by “flagship,” as it already has the higher-end 700M in its arsenal.
The sensor in the 550M is an SDNS-3988 optical sensor, which can track accurately at up to 6400 DPI. Because it’s an optical sensor, we can expect that there is no inherent mouse acceleration or angle snapping, which is good. Of course, you’ll be able to adjust the sensitivity to your liking.
The RGB lighting features two zones and is adjustable through the Cougar UIX software. In the software, users are also able to configure the polling rate and customize the actions of the buttons.
As far as buttons go, the mouse only features those that most gamers need: left, right, a clickable scroll wheel, browser navigation buttons, and a DPI switcher.
The mouse will be hitting shelves over the coming weeks with an MSRP of $59.
Additionally, Cougar also announced the 500M. This mouse features the same shape, but it has a lower DPI optical sensor, a cut feature list, and a price tag $20 lower. The company did not specify which other features it cut.
