Huawei President Confirms Eight-Core Ascend P6S Coming

An updated version of the Huawei Ascend P6 is on the horizon, one which will see it having an octa-core processor. Huawei president Xu Xun Quan revealed that the Ascend P6S smartphone will be getting the eight-core treatment in the future, though refrained from hinting at exactly when the device will be coming on the market.

The processor being used could end up being either one of Huawei’s own creation or one from MediaTek, reports Phone Arena. Early benchmarks for the octa-core MediaTek MT6592 are said to be fairly decent, reaching an AnTuTu bench score of around 28,000. MediaTek will apparently release the MT6592 chip along with a new quad-core variant, the MT6582, on November 20.

If the only thing that changes in the Ascend P6 is the processor, it should in theory ship with 2GB of RAM, a 1280×720-resolution 4.7-inch display, an 8-megapixel BSI camera with macro shot and 1080p HD video recording capabilities, 8GB of storage, and Dolby Digital Plus audio processing. It could also keep its metalic casing and thin profile, with the original measuring just 6.18mm (0.24 inches) thick.
