On Monday, Facebook updated its iOSapp to version 5.6, revamping its messaging feature slightly to make it easier to name and group conversations and require fewer taps to start a group message. The other main improvement is the ability for users to updated their cover photo directly from the app, though this ability is limited to the iPhone and draws only from the camera or the photo library.
Facebook had added free VOIP calling last month, after a brief trial period where the feature was implemented in Canada only.
The VOIP calling feature comes in addition to the ability of uses to make audio or video recordings to be used in chat messages.
The company has still not announced any plans to add the features to the Android version of the app. FThe iOS app is 25.2MB in size and available for update or installation in the App Store.
