Facebook is releasing a major update today to its app for Apple’s iOS. The update brings limited support for Chat Heads, one of the key features of the company’s new Facebook Home software for Android-based phones.
Chat Heads surface incoming messages in a unique visual style that floats above the rest of the interface. On an Android phone running Facebook Home, Chat Heads appear over almost any running app. In the new iOS app, the user must be within the Facebook app for Chat Heads to appear, due to the more restrictive nature of iOS.
The update will also update the visual style of News Feed to match recent updates on other platforms.
