Armie Hammer (The Social Network) will take the lead in The Lone Ranger alongside Johnny Depp, and now he’ll be working with Tom Cruise in he adaptation of the 1960s TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Director Guy Ritchie is behind the film after Steven Soderbergh stepped away, eventually causing George Clooney to fall out of the project as well. But it was Cruise’s casting that gave the project new life and saved Ritchie from leaving to take on a different project instead.
The NBC television series, which ran from 1964-1968, followed two mismatched secret agents (one American, one from the USSR) working for the United Network Command for Law Enforcement as they thwarted the plots of THRUSH, an organization so evil that even opposing countries like Russia and the U.S. put aside their differences and worked together to oppose it.
