Leonardo DiCaprio is making plans to play Russia’s “Mad Monk,” Grigori Rasputin in Rasputin, a historical biopic set up at Warner Bros. Jason Hall, responsible for the upcoming Steven Spielberg film American Sniper, will provide the screenplay.
In the early years of the 20th century, Rasputin was invited by Tsar Nicholas II to serve as a medical advisor to his hemophiliac son Alexei. Rumored to have manipulated the throne behind the scenes, Rasputin’s exploits are the stuff of legend, rumored to tie into mysticism and the dark arts.
DiCaprio recently starred in both Django Unchained and The Great Gatsby. He can soon be seen reteaming with Martin Scorsese for The Wolf of Wall Street.
Rasputin will be produced by Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Kevin McCormick and Peter Morgan.
