Apple has revealed updated versions of its AirPort base stations at WWDC, made to accommodate the improved Wi-Fi in the revised Macbook Air, confirming earlier rumors. The new AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsules can now connect wirelessly over three-stream 802.11ac, which will provide up to 40-percent faster file transfers compared to previous versions the networking performance of 802.11n connections.
The new AirPort base stations measures 4-inches wide and 6.5-inches tall. The antenna array allows for Beamforming, namely improving performance to a specific device, on top of the performance increase and dual-band connections. The new AirPort Time Capsules add in options for a 2-terabyte or 3-terabyte drive, on top of the improved networking.
Apple has not yet revealed pricing or availability information for any of the new AirPort base stations.
