Avid is now shipping updates to two of its flagship apps, Pro Tools 11 and Media Composer 7. Pro Tools has switched to a new audio engine and a 64-bit architecture, and gained features like offline bounce and dynamic host processing. The software is $699 new, or about $300 to $500 as an upgrade.
Media Composer, Avid professional video editing suite, has been upgraded with things like faster workflows and automated media management. Also new is Interplay Sphere for Mac support, something limited to a special Interplay Edition. The feature lets teams edit, share, tag, track, and sync projects despite working in remote locations.
The Interplay Edition costs $1,499, and must be bought from an Avid reseller or sales representative, not the company’s website. The regular edition is being sold at a new, lower price, $999, with upgrades priced between $299 and $399. Also available is bundle with Symphony, a previously stand-alone app that expands functions like mastering and color correction.
