Four Actors Join Baltasar Kormakur’s Everest

Josh BrolinDeadline is reporting that Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband, the upcoming 2 Guns) is already planning his next movie, a mountain climbing disaster film called Everest with four of the actors already in place. According to the story, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, J and Jason Clarke will headline the film that’s aiming to start shooting in November with Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing and Universal Pictures and Emmett/Films in talks to co-finance the project.

Jake GyllenhaalThe film is based on three attempted expeditions to climb Mount Everest in 1996 which left eight climbers dead, first made famous in Jon Karakauer’s TV movie “Into Thin Air,” although Kormakur’s film will be adapted from a number of books and interviews with the survivors.

Gyllenhaal and Brolin both have upcoming movies coming out in the fall–Gyllenhaal can be seen in Prisoners, opposite Hugh Jackman, while Brolin stars in Spike Lee’s Oldboy. Clarke was most recently seen as one of the bad guys in Roland Emmerich’s White House Down, while Hawkes was last seen starring in the Sundance favorite The Sessions and Stephen Spielberg’s Lincoln, both last year.
