Apple has pushed a silent update to the Apple TV, adding a number of extra apps to the set-top. As anticipated, one of the them is Vevo’s music video service. Also new though are Disney Channel and Disney XD, the Weather Channel, and an app from the Smithsonian.
The update continues a recent pattern of adding channels from broadcast networks to the Apple TV, instead of just more online services. Apple is thought to be pursuing a new app-based strategy toward building content for a TV set and/or a pay service. The company is still negotiating with cable providers though, and may integrate Time Warner support into the Apple TV in the near future.
