TiVo has finally allowed out-of-home streaming on some of its digital video recorder range. Apps have been released for the iPhone and iPad in the App Store which allow for streaming and downloading of live TV shows and recorded content to a mobile device, something the company teased at the launch of its TiVo Roamio DVR line back in August.
The iOS app lets users view streaming content through an available Wi-Fi connection, including outside the home, though it will also allow for downloads of shows over slower connections as well. It also introduces a second-screen dashboard with personalized recommendations, a program guide, remote record scheduling, and the same browsing tools as the DVR’s main interface offers.
Not all of TiVo’s current product offerings provide the functionality. The TiVo Roamio Pro and Roamio Plus will receive an automatic software update today, with base model Roamio owners using the TiVo Stream having to wait until November. Support for 4G LTE connections and an Android app with the same functionality is scheduled for release in sometime in 2014.
