The HP ProDesk 400 series is an expandable desktop PC available in a small form factor (SFF) or microtower (MT) chassis. This series comes in two flavors — the HP ProDesk 400 G1 powered by an Intel Pentium Core i3, i5, or i7 and the HP ProDesk 405 G1 powered by an AMD quad-core A6-5200, A4-5000, or AMD Dual-Core E1-2500 APU (accelerated processing unit) with AMD Radeon HD Graphics.
Both models can expand up to 16GB of DDR3 SDRAM and include of up to a 2TB SATA hard drive. HP offers optional discrete graphics upgrade that include various AMD Radeon and NVIDIA options.
The starting price of the ProDesk is $499. Although it doesn’t specifically identify what the base system includes for $499, it’s likely that even a minimally configured AMD powered machine with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive would be enough power to handle routine office applications. There are various options to upgrade from the base ProDesk 400 to meet businesses computing needs.
An important business feature is data security and that is embedded into the heart of the ProDesk 400 series in the form of HP’s Client Security. This includes a self-encrypting hard disk and HP Trust Circles, a feature that allows users to restrict access to shared data files to specific contacts.
The HP ProDisplay P231 is a 23 inch monitor (measured diagonally) that has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a 5 ms response time, and a 3 M:1 dynamic contrast ratio. VGA and DVI inputs are included for attaching media and other devices. The monitor is designed to sit on a desk or can be mounted on a wall. The starting price is $185.
The HP 200 G1 Series 215 Notebook base unit is powered by an AMD Dual-Core A4-1250 APU (accelerated processing unit) and comes with 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1×4 GB) and an internal 320 GB disk drive. It includes an 11.6″ HD anti-glare WLED (White Light Emitting Diode) SVA touchscreen or it can be configured with a non-touch display.
Configured with a non-touch display these units weigh in at about 3.32 lbs and about 3.37 lbs with a touchscreen. These notebooks are wireless ready and, if more power is needed, there are options to upgrade from the base AMD dual core to an AMD quad core or Intel i3 core processor as well as increasing disk storage.
The base notebook includes Windows 7 Home Premium 64 but an upgraded notebook can also be configured with Windows 7 Professional 64 or Windows 8.1 Pro 64. According to HP, the HP 200 has a battery life of up to eight and a half hours (depending on usage) with an easy to swap replacement battery. The base unit starts at $399.
