Netflix has brought its Android app closer to parity with its web offering, bringing the ability to host multiple user profiles on a single device. The move gives greater content control to parents, who can now generate a separate user profile for children on shared Android devices. The new feature comes a few months after Netflix began offering it for iOS devices and Apple TV units in August.
The addition of multiple user profiles also allows users to keep their own viewing profiles separate, allowing Netflix to better tailor suggestions to individuals. As well as the new profile feature, the update adds enhanced search support options. Users can now search for specific actors, directors, and other people. They can also view related titles within search results.
Netflix for Android version 3.1.0 is available as a free download in the Google Play Store. The 14MB download requires an Android device running version 2.2 or higher.
