Roku has announced today (Dec. 17) that a YouTube channel has finally arrived on the company’s Roku 3 set-top boxes. Users can go to the Roku Channel store and install YouTube immediately. Beyond simply presenting YouTube’s online videos in up to 1080p resolution, Roku’s YouTube app supports “send to TV,” which is the ability to send a YouTube video from your smartphone or tablet to the Roku 3 when connected via Wi-Fi.
The Roku 3 player is a media player with more than 1,000 entertainment channels, according to the company, and competes with devices such as Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast. The Roku 3 is the latest model of the box and it retails for $99 (through a holiday sale, customers can currently receive $10 off). Roku says the YouTube channel will debut on other Roku players next year.
