anchorman-the-legend-continues-6Kicking off what should be a solid opening weekend at the box office for Paramount’sAnchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” the film earned $8.1 million on Wednesday, its first day of release, including $2.3 million in late-night shows on Tuesday.‎

The film is expected to take in $30 million in three days, according to Paramount. That may be a conservative estimate, since the most recent direct comparison, Universal’s “Little Fockers,” earned $7.1 million during its midweek berth this same week in 2010. It grossed $30.8 million in three days. “Little Fockers” didn’t have late-night showtimes, however. The original “Anchorman” earned $28.4 million during its first weekend at the box office in July 2004.

“Anchorman 2″ stars Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Christina Applegate from the original film and adds James Marsden, Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, and Meagan Good to the sequel.
