HTC Won’t Update One X and One + After Android 4.2.2

HTC One AT&THTC has been pretty transparent about its update plans for the One lately, frequently sharing news concerning the status of its software upgrades and when they were expected to begin rolling out. That openness continues today, but unfortunately for owners of the HTC One X and One X+, the news that HTC has to share this time around isn’t good.

HTC’s U.K. arm recently revealed on Twitter that the One X+ won’t receive any further Android updates, meaning that it’ll remain on Android 4.2.2. HTC reaffirmed the decision in a statement:

“We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”

This news is definitely a bummer for owners of HTC’s former flagship, but considering how silent HTC has been regarding the One X and One X+ lately, it doesn’t come as a total surprise either. At least now owners of both devices know that they’ll remain on Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 for the rest of the time that they own their unit, though. The good news is that for any One X and One X+ owners that aren’t scared to tinker with their device, the Android hacking community likely has a custom ROM or two that can provide the taste of KitKat that HTC won’t.
