Apple has updated its website to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Macintosh computer. After a brief introduction to the festivities, visitors to the site are directed to a dedicated “Mac 30” mini-site fronted by a video covering the impact of the Mac in a range of creative industries, as well as an interactive timeline of the Mac’s history, and the ability to vote on how they were first introduced to the computer.
Weighing in at just under three minutes, the Mac 30 video features a number of innovators and creators speaking about how the Mac inspired and helped them become successful. Designers, educators, and artists, as well as musician Moby, described the Mac as a “remarkable, ubiquitous technology” and a “worldwide democratization of creativity,” accompanied by video clips of projects created on a Mac.
Your first Mac invites visitors to reveal when they initially were introduced to the computer range, what their first Mac was, as well as what they did with it. Current results show Macs were used predominantly for “Education and Teaching” between 1984 and 1995, with “Graphic Design” briefly becoming the most popular answer for 1996, with “Internet & Email” seemingly dominating the rankings from 1997 onward.
