Following their announcement this weekend that “Southland” star Ben McKenzie will play James Gordon in their upcoming series “Gotham,” Fox and Warner Bros. Television have announced the casting of four more characters for the show.
Robin Lord Taylor (Accepted, “The Walking Dead“) joins the cast as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin). His character is described as follows: With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.
Sean Pertwee (Alan Partridge, Event Horizon) will appear as Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Pertwee’s Alfred appears to be taking some cues from Geoff Johns comic “Batman: Earth One” as he’s described as follows: A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.
The series has also cast Zabryna Guevara (“Burn Notice“) as Gordon’s boss at the GCPD, Captain Essen, and Erin Richards (“Being Human“, “Merlin“) as Gordon’s fiancee, Barbara Kean.
Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome“) wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer on the series. Danny Cannon (“CSI,” “Nikita“) will direct and executive produce the pilot.
