Just one day after Screen Daily reported that Meryl Streep has joined Carey Mulligan in Sarah (Brick Lane) Gavron’s Suffragette, they have added two more names to the cast list with Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) and Brendan Gleeson (“Harry Potter“) joining the mix.
Based on a screenplay by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady), the film tells the story of Maude (Mulligan), a young woman who becomes involved in the early feminist movement and whose peaceful efforts to violence in order to make change. Streep has a smaller role playing Suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
Filming is to begin on Monday, February 24 with the rest of the cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Romola Garai, Anne-Marie Duff and Samuel West.
There is no word on whom Whishaw or Gleeson will be playing in the film.
