Wireless networking solutions provider Amped Wireless today announced the availability of its REC15A High Power Compact 802.11ac Wi-Fi Range Extender. The wall-plug unit extends the signal of any standard 802.11a/b/g/n or ac Wi-Fi router by repeating, amplifying, and redistributing the signal in an extended location, such as a far bedroom, backyard, or upstairs office.
Standard Wi-Fi devices have an output power of 50mW. The REC15A broadcasts up to 500 mW of Wi-Fi output power to eliminate dead spots and attain more range. With four total amplifiers and a high gain, dual band antenna, the REC15A provides up to 5,000 square feet of extended coverage. In addition, the REC15A features 802.11ac Wi-Fi and simultaneously repeats both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz Wi-Fi signals.
One wired Gigabit Ethernet port is built into the REC15A for connecting PCs, TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles and any other network device. The REC15A is equipped with security features including parental controls like restricted access for certain users, time of day schedules to limit the network’s availability, and adjustable Wi-Fi coverage settings to limit the signal strength.
The REC15A range extender is available online for $100. Retail availability is expected within the next two weeks.
