It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is about to become the longest-running, live action comedy in TV history: FX Productions just reached a three-year deal with Sunny creators Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and Rob McElhenney and their company, RCG Productions, that includes orders for seasons 11 and 12 of the show.
The deal with Day, Howerton, and McElhenney also includes an order for a new half-hour comedy by the trio (plus Luvh Rakhe) starring Tracy Morgan, expected to air January 2015 timed with season 10 of Sunny.
“Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton are three of the most talented comedy writers and producers in our business, not to mention very gifted actors,” Nick Grad, co-president of original programming at FX, said in a statement. “This deal is a testament to their skill, intelligence, and work ethic, which combined to earn them one of the best overall deals in TV. Not bad for three guys who shot a pilot ten years ago for $200 and a few pizzas.”
Along with the added seasons of Sunny and the Tracy Morgan comedy, the deal also calls for a to-be-announced pilot and script orders for three shows, including one co-written by Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Charlie Day
