Fresh off the heels of Bethesda Softworks’ own announcement that The Elder Scrolls Online has been delayed by six months for consoles, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer Techland have pushed back the release date for Dying Light from spring 2014 to February 2015.

“When we started the development of ‘Dying Light,’ we were committed to innovation. We wanted to give you a freedom of movement unprecedented in open world games. After many improvements and months of hard work, we have now come so close to realizing our initial vision we feel we cannot stop before it is ready,” said Techland.

“We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing too early. This quality-focused thinking underlines all our development choices and we hope you share our belief that the gameplay must always come first.

“The new date ensures that we can fully realize our vision of an innovative open world game. We won’t need to make compromises or trade-offs on any of the five platforms we’re working on. For you, it means an outstanding, original game that makes the wait more than worthwhile.”

During the day, players will traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning’s first light.

Dying Light is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. C
