Nash EdgertonWhile the name Nash Edgerton may not be that well known to the public at large, the Australian filmmaker who cofounded Blue Tongue Films has made a series of incredible short films that have won him numerous awards at festivals, as well as directed the amazing crime-thriller The Square, co-written by his brother Joel Edgerton. Edgerton is also a stuntman and coordinator whose amazing work can be seen in films like The Wolverine, Mission: Impossible II and the “Star Wars” prequels.

Annapurna International (formerly Panorama Media) is clearly a fan as they’ve picked up the international rights to his next movie American Express just days before the Cannes Film Festival begins with Charlize Theron in talks to star. There is no further information on the feature in terms of genre, plot, etc.

Annapurna will also be handling the international rights to John Krasinski’s next movie The Hollars, co-starring Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale.

Here is the official press release announcing the deal:

Annapurna International is handling the international rights of AMERICAN EXPRESS directed by Nash Edgerton (THE SQUARE) out of Cannes, announced Head of International Sales Kimberly Fox today. The film will be produced by Annapurna Pictures and Denver & Delilah. Charlize Theron is in negotiations to star.

The Cannes Film Festival will also serve as the re-branding of Panorama Media to Annapurna announced Annapurna founder and principal Megan Ellison along with Fox. The new name will streamline the financing and international sales arm with Annapurna’s day-to-day film production and finance business under one name.

Annapurna International will continue to handle sales of Annapurna’s titles as well as third party projects. In addition to AMERICAN EXPRESS, Annapurna International will also handle the international rights to John Krasinski’s THE HOLLARS, for which Annapurna International will handle international sales at the festival. THE HOLLARS cast includes Krasinski, Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale.

“With Annapurna Pictures, Megan has built a brand that is recognized for its involvement with quality projects and filmmakers,” stated Fox. “With the new title of Annapurna International, I am excited to expand that brand globally with our amazing team.”
