Since screening footage exclusively for critics at last year’s TCA winter press tour, “Tyrant” has gone quiet — until now. The hotly anticipated Middle East drama from “Homeland” writer and producer Gideon Raff (and “Harry Potter” director David Yates) doesn’t seem to stray too far from its creator’s roots, with flashbacks and secrets playing a major part in the two new 30-second spots.
Raff was the man behind “Prisoners of War,” the Israeli TV series on which “Homeland” was based. “Tyrant” tells a similar story, but from the other side: Set in a fictional Middle Eastern country, a former citizen of “Baladi” must return to his home for the first time in 20 years for his nephew’s wedding. His family is less than peaceful in a region torn apart by war, and he fears becoming connected again, especially with his new family along for the ride.
Instead of Brody heading back to the States, watch Barry return to Baladi in the clips below. “Tyrant” premieres on FX June 24th.
