Today through June 9th, the US branch of RadioShack is running a special in-store discount on Apple’s iPhone 5s and 5c, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S5. 5s buyers can get a 16GB model on AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint for free if they bring in a working iPhone 4S, or simply pay $80 — in either case, a new or upgraded two-year contract is required. The rules are similar with the 5c, except that a broader range of phones can be traded in, and the cash option is only $30.
People wanting a Galaxy S5 — a more recent device than the 5s or 5c — must trade in an earlier phone to get an $80 on-contract pricetag. To support both the iPhone and Galaxy discounts, RadioShack is cutting $10 off the cost of some Mophie and OtterBox cases, and $5 off of PointMobl screen protectors.
For the iPhone 5s and 5c at least, the discounts are their first of their kind so far. A 16GB 5s normally costs $199, and even Walmart charges $149 for the same hardware.
