Tim Roth is the latest name to join the cast of the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic, Selma. Deadline reports that Roth will play Alabama Governor George Wallace opposite David Oyelowo as King and Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Ava DuVernay (I Will Follow) is directing Selma from her own screenplay. The story is set in Alabama, the place where segregation in the South was at its worst, leading to a march that ended in violence, forcing a famous statement by Johnson that ultimately led to the signing of the Civil Rights Act.
Roth recently starred opposite Nicole Kidman in another biopic, Olivier Dahan’s Grace of Monaco.
Pathe UK and Plan B Productions are producing Selma alongside Christian Colson and Oprah Winfrey with Paramount Pictures set to distribute domestically.
