Facebook has launched a new iPhone app, Mentions. Unlike its others, however, Mentions can’t be accessed by the general public. Instead users must have a verified account, restricting it to businesses and celebrities such as actors, politicians, and musicians.
As its name implies the app highlights mentions of a person or corporation on Facebook. Users can see trending topics on the site, and participate directly via the app. This includes not just photos, videos, and text, but live Q&A sessions.
So far the app is only available for the iPhone and iPod touch, excluding platforms like Android, the iPad, and Windows Phone. It is also limited to the US, and currently only verified pages. Access outside the US and for verified profiles is due within the next several months.
