While a number of diverse “Frankenstein” adaptations have either already made their way to the big screen or are currently in development, Deadline reports today on a very different “origin story” in the works for the character.
Best known for playing Sansa Stark on HBO’s immensely popular “Game of Thrones,” Sophie Turner is set to play Mary Shelley in an upcoming stylized biopic of the iconic author. The film, titled Mary Shelley’s Monster, will also star Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as Percy Shelley and Taissa Farmiga (“American Horror Story”) as Claire Clairmont, Shelley’s adoptive sister.
“Our film is not a period drama,” says producer Rose Ganguzza. “It is a story of youth that transcends time, a gothic romance, a love triangle that involves a dark passenger, and we are tremendously excited to have such an exciting cast onboard this wonderful project.”
Ganguzza goes on to say that the film will be told “in a visceral, sexy, contemporary way.”
Veteran television director Coky Giedroyc (“The Killing,” “American Horror Story”) is set to make her feature film debut with Mary Shelley’s Monster. Ganguzza will produce alongside J. Todd Harris, Damon Lane and Marc Marcum.
