Google has acquired design firm Gecko, in an effort to bolster its Google(x) product manufacture efforts. The firm has previously done industrial design work for OLPC, Logitech, Sling Media, Herman Miller, Hewlett-Packard, and contributed to the Fitbit design, pre-launch.
Jacques Gagne, owner of Gecko confirmed the sale in a brief statement on its website, which seems to herald the closing of the studio and complete absorption by Google. Gagne writes that “this is an incredible opportunity for everyone at Gecko. We are very excited and honored to join Google(x) and work on a variety of cutting edge products.”
Google has confirmed the deal. No terms of the deal are known. It is also unknown what projects Gecko will commence working on, but Google Glass seems the most likely immediate candidate.
