VMworld has kicked off in San Francisco, and Dell made several announcements around VDI. Dell’s desktop virtualization portfolio will see growth soon with the new Dell Wyse Intel-based 3000 thin client, and new additions to the Dell Wyse 5000’s feature set.
The Dell Wyse Intel-based 3000 is “the first Dell thin client that runs on an Intel processor, and while its dual core Bay Trail chip packs enterprise-grade performance, it’s small enough to fit and look great on any desk (or back of monitor),” says Jeff McNaught, executive director, marketing and chief strategy officer for Dell Cloud Client-Computing.
The Dell Wyse Intel-based 3000 runs on the Intel dual-core Bay Trail processor and is compatible with both high-end networking devices and legacy equipment. The new Intel-based thin client comes with Windows Embedded 7, setting it apart from previous Dell Wyse 3000 series products that either ran Dell’s Wyse ThinOS or Ubuntu.
Further expanding its Cloud Client computingportfolio, Dell is also introducing new PCoIP features to the Dell Wyse 5000 series of thin clients. The 5000 series is Dell’s all-in-one thin client solution that runs on Dell Wyse Thin OS 8.0. The new PCoIP capabilities of the 5000 series significantly improve its use for 3D modeling or HD video streaming.
