Ouya may be acquired in the not-too-distant future, a report claims. The company behind the Kickstarter-funded Android game console is said to be in talks with a number of companies, both located in the United States as well as in China, though apparently discussions are at an early stage and no offers have been made by any potential suitors.

Sources of Recode claim Ouya has spoken to Google and Amazon, as well as larger Chinese companies, including Xiaomi and Tencent. While the Chinese companies are likely to be taking an interest after the lifting of a console ban in the country, it seems everyone involved is interested more in the talent behind the game console rather than the hardware itself, something which would help the Chinese contingent accelerate their gaming plans.

Aside from the initial interest in the console during its crowdfunding efforts, a phase which saw the company receive close to $8.6 million from backers, Ouya has seemingly failed to make a considerable impact in the gaming space, despite reaching retail. To encourage development, it created a $1 million fund matching money raised by gaming Kickstarter campaigns, in exchange to platform exclusivity for six months. It has also offered a Netflix-style All-Access Pass to customers, and expanded availability of Ouya games to other platforms via Ouya Everywhere.
