During today’s Apple press event, the company quickly mentioned that iOS 8 will be available to download free starting on September 17th. The oldest devices compatible with it will be the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and fifth-generation iPod touch. It will come preloaded on Apple’s newest devices, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
The firmware introduces a number of new platforms, such as HealthKit, HomeKit, and Apple Pay. Beyond those, new features include things like landscape views, Reachability, video and voice in Messages, support for inter-app extensions, and third-party keyboards.
