With buzz slowly building for Keanu Reeves’ upcoming action-thriller John Wick, Lionsgate has announced that the film will be digitally re-mastered for IMAX and will play on the large-format screens when it bows domestically on October 24. Could this be a sign of confidence suggesting a Taken-like sleeper hit? Are audiences clamoring to see Reeves’ take revenge?
In the film, an ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, John Wick is a fresh and stylized take on the “assassin genre.”
“We are over the moon that John Wick will play in IMAX theatres,” said Lionsgate’s President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution, Richie Fay . “This film is loaded with non-stop action and excitement, but full of heart; it really exploded out of Fantastic Fest and we cannot wait to share it with audiences around the country.”
Directed by stunt technicians Chad Stahelski and David Leitch (The Matrix), John Wick also features Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Dean Winters, Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, John Leguizmo and Willem Dafoe.
