Super Smash Bros. for 3DS launched Friday, representing the first time the series has ever come to a portable device. If you want to play the game’s online multiplayer mode, you’ll need to download and install an update from the eShop, Nintendo writes on its support site.
Though you can still play the game’s offline modes without the update, Nintendo said it “strongly recommends” that all players download and install the update. In addition to enabling online multiplayer features for Super Smash Bros., the update introduces various gameplay balance adjustments designed to create a “more pleasant gaming experience,” Nintendo said.
If you’ve already logged a few hours–or more–in the game and are worried the update might wipe your save data, here’s some good news. Nintendo says all your previous save data will remain intact after downloading the update.
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS launched across the US on October 3. The game sells for $40.
