Platforming adventure Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse will hit Nintendo 3DS on October 23, Nintendo confirmed on Wednesday. The release will complete the “pixel” trilogy of WayForward’s original series, which began on Game Boy Color in 2002 and continued with Shantae: Risky’s Revenge on DSiWare in 2010.
Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is also planned for release on Wii U in “winter.” WayForward aims to reinvent the series on home consoles, PC and PS Vita later on with the crowdfunded Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.
WayForward’s project will be one of several “Nindie” projects presented at IndieCade in Culver City, California from Friday to Sunday. The projects and their creators will represent Nintendo’s independent outreach efforts, according to the firm.
“These Nindie developers are currently making some of the most exciting and imaginative games out there, and Nintendo is pleased to offer them multiple platforms to bring their creative ideas to life,” Nintendo of America’s vice president of licensing Steve Singer said in a prepared statement.
