Google has announced a new version of its calendar application for Android devices. The apps brings with it a handful of new features, one of which is automatic event scheduling.
The calendar app will, for example, scan Gmail for flight itineraries and other invitations and then automatically create events based on those emails, complete with location details. The new calendar app is smart enough to re-schedule those same events if there are delays or changes.
A new feature called Assists helps users by suggesting titles, people, and places as they fill out events. It also adapts to the user’s typing preferences over time. Another addition to the calendar is called Schedule View, which will include photos, maps, illustrations, or cityscapes of locations within calendar events.
The new Google calendar is compatible with all Android 4.1+ devices and it will be available from the Play Store in the coming weeks. The new calendar app is built into Android 5.0 Lollipop.
