The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1–this weekend’s only new movie in wide release–opened softer than the previous two installments in Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ series, no one is going to complain about a $55 million estimated opening day when that’s the highest gross for a single day this year, by a significant amount.
Signs weregood when the flick took in $17 million in Thursday previews. Still that is down $8 million from what The Hunger Games: Catching Fire did in the same period last year.
Bu the new movie has more grossed in one day than all but 11 movies grossed during their opening weekends this past year!
