Mozilla has released Firefox 34, the latest version of its multi-platform web browser. As promised last month, the update makes Yahoo the default search engine. People upgrading from a previous version, however, are only being prompted to switch engines in a pop-up message; clicking “Later” leaves Google search in place.
Some improvements on the desktop include an enhanced search bar, better theme switching, and the addition of the experimental Hello chat client, which supports voice and video calls and can connect with any WebRTC-capable browser, such as Chrome. The search bar now incorporates shortcuts for limiting results to a particular site, such as Amazon or Wikipedia.
The Android edition of the update includes just a handful of significant changes. Among these are Chromecast mirroring, HTTPS for Wikipedia search, a new theme, and MP4 playback on Lollipop. Mozilla notes that so far, Flash and MP3 files still won’t work for Lollipop users.
