Google has announced that its Cast technology will soon be able to send audio-only feeds to devices such as speakers and AV receivers. Users will be able to cast from Android and iOS apps, as well the web, presumably via Chrome for Windows, OS X, and Chrome OS. Some compatible services will include Deezer, Google Play Music, NPR One, Pandora, Rdio, and TuneIn.
Support is primarily waiting on compatible hardware. Google says that the first speakers to support casting will ship in the US this spring, from companies such as LG, Sony, and Denon.
While it’s already possible to cast music, radio, and podcasts to a number of devices, these are mostly limited to the Chromecast, Nexus Player, and various compatible TVs. Google notes that the Chromecast is currently available in 27 countries, and should ship to more regions later this year
