DC Entertainment has launched MORTAL KOMBAT X, a new weekly Digital First comic series based on the critically acclaimed game franchise developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Mortal Kombat X, the next installment of the game continues 25 years after the events of 2011’s MORTAL KOMBAT. The comic book series will serve as a prequel to the game and feature fan-favorite characters including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, as well as the next generation of Kombatants.
“Stand on your rooftop in a thunderstorm and shout ‘MORTAL KOMBAT!’ at the top of your lungs. That’s how awesome it feels to have the opportunity to write this comic series,” exclaimed Shawn Kittelsen, writer MORTAL KOMBAT X. “This is Mortal Kombat the way it should be: a no-holds-barred, martial-arts epic with a massive cast of iconic characters. Series favorites like Scorpion and Sub-Zero appear in new and surprising roles, and the comics will be your first look at the origins of new characters like Kotal Kahn and Cassie Cage. Also, FATALITIES.”
“Mortal Kombat’s long running story is one of the favorite features for fans of the game and Mortal Kombat X continues that story up to 25 years into the future,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “The Mortal Kombat X comic is a great lead-up to what we have in store for the game.”
MORTAL KOMBAT X is written by Shawn Kittelsen who is making his DC Comics comic book writing debut with this title. Interior art is by Dexter Soy and covers by Ivan Reis.
