According to an update on Apple’s page listing its Apple Pay partners, another 14 financial institutions have gain support for Apple Pay and the adding of their credit and debit cards into Passbook, bringing the total number of banks and CUs to 70. Among the institutions joining the bandwagon are Ohio-based Fifth Third Bank, which boasts six million customers in multiple states, and INOVA Federal Credit Union, with two million members.
Other credit unions that have signed up for Apple Pay compatibility include Alliant, Altra Federal, Andrews Federal, the Boeing Employee’s Credit Union, Ent Federal, First Tech Federal, Golden 1, and Star One Credit Union. Banks that joined today include BBVA Compass, First Niagara Bank, Savings Bank of Danbury, and Uwharrie Bank. Consumers should note that compatibility generally extends to personal consumer credit and debit cards issued by the institution, but may not apply yet to small business cards, or co-branded cards from retailers, airlines, hotel chains and the like.
