DriveClub was probably the most disappointing first party PS4 game of 2014, not that there were many of those. It’s been six months since it was released, and during that time, we’ve heard a lot of different explanations and excuses from Sony.
Who can forget the fiasco when Sony claimed that “you can’t test a game like DrievClub“? The funny part was Sony didn’t even try to test the game. As a result, it launched broken with lots of its features missing. Only after several months of patches did the game get fully functioning.
Eventually, Sony apologized for the issues with DriveClub, and now PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan says that the company has learned from its mistakes with DriveClub and that they will apply what they’ve learned to all of its future titles.
Ryan also says that Sony feels that day-one patches have gotten out of hand, and that gamers should expect games to work on day one. But he adds that it’s up to the publishers if they want to release a massive day-one patch, or delay the game instead.
As for DriveClub, Ryan said that they were taken aback by the launch issues and they were working very hard to fix things, saying: “People were working 24/7, and that’s an expression that’s lightly used but people were working 24/7 trying to fix this.”
