20th Century Fox has altered its summer release schedule, slightly delaying Jake Schreier’s Paper Towns and Paul Feig’s Spy, but moving Poltergeist a full two months earlier than initially planned. Of the three, Poltergeist will now hit first, arriving in theaters May 22. Spy, which was originally slated for that date, will see release on June 5, in turn bumping Paper Towns to July 24.
Poltergeist, directed by Monster House‘s Gil Kenan, stars Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris, Rosemarie DeWitt,Saxon Sharbino and Jane Adams and contemporizes the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.
The new date will see Poltergeist opening opposite Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, Mark Neveldine’s The Vatican Tapes, Thomas Cailley’s romance Love at First Fight, and Claudia Llosa’s indie drama Aloft.
Spy, the espionage action comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jason Statham and Jude Law, will then face off against the Entourage movie, Insidious Chapter Three, the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy, and Christopher Bell’s sports documentary Trophy Kids.
Finally, Paper Towns, the adaptation of the new novel from The Fault in Our Stars‘ John Green, will open opposite Chris Columbus’ Pixels, Joe Wright’s Pan, Woody Allen’s Irrational Man, and Kerem Sanga’s The Young Kieslowski.
