MixRadio, the rebrand of the Nokia Music streaming service known to Windows Phone users owning Lumia devices, is being tested on Android and iOS. Fresh from being transferred to Line after being acquired from Nokia by Microsoft, MixRadio is now performing a private beta of the app for the other two major mobile platforms, suggesting it could be heading to users sooner than initially thought.
Windows Central was told of the private beta testing of the two apps during Mobile World Congress, after meeting the MixRadio team. Dean Pattrick, part of the MixRadio team, was quick to advise that, despite no longer being a Windows Phone exclusive, the app will continue to operate on the platform, with an update due this summer said to add more functionality, as well as becoming a universal Windows app in the future.
When launched on iOS and Android, it is likely that MixRadio will continue to offer the same services as the Windows Phone version. This includes curated mixes with playlists created by theme and genre, downloadable mixes that can be played offline without a connection, and the ability to rate individual songs in a mix to include or remove them from future mixes.
A launch date for the iOS and Android versions has not yet been set, but they are likely to arrive out of beta around the same time as the Windows Phone app update.
