Days after a Marvel Comics creative retreat for its editors and top-tier writers, one of the company’s top editors is leaving to help start a new company.
Deadline is reporting that Marvel Executive Editor Mike Marts has left the company to join a new publisher called AfterShock Comics as Editor-In-Chief. Marts is a 22 year veteran of the American comic industry, beginning as an Associate Editor at Marvel in 1993 with stints at Acclaim and DC Entertainment before returning to the publisher in January 2014 as Executive Editor in charge of the X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy titles.
Not much is known at this time about AfterShock Comics, but according to Deadline he is joined by Joe Pruett. Pruett is best known as the owner of the independent comics company Desperado Publishing and for founding the anthology series Negative Burn. Desperado Publishing had published on its own, as well as through Image Comics and most recently IDW Publishing. There’s no word yet of Pruett’s ties to Desperado and to IDW.
On the business side, AfterShock Comics co-CEOs are Facebook’s former Chief Privacy Officer Michael Richter, and Jon Kramer who has a background in Hollywood. Lee Kramer is in as AfterShock’s president, with Silicon Valley investor Jaward Qureshi listed as Senior Vice President of Investor Relations.
