The original PS Vita was released on December 17, 2011 and it took Sony just under two years to release revised hardware as the PS Vita Slim. Now, another 18 months later, and it looks like a 3rd generation PS Vita is set to come to market.
The biggest change between the 1st generation PCH-1000 and 2nd generation PCH-2000 series hardware was the replacement of the OLED screen with an LCD panel. The Vita also got slimmer and lighter, has longer battery life, 1GB of internal memory, and a micro USB Type B port. So what can we expect to change in this PCH-3000 model?
So far all we have to go on is the trademark image of the new unit, which you can see above. Unlike the move from 1st to 2nd generation hardware, this looks to be a minor revision update for Sony. The layout, shape, and thickness all look to be very similar to the PCH-2000 model. Sony has probably found ways to combine components inside and make the PS Vita cheaper to manufacture, much like it has done before with the PSP and PlayStation console hardware.
