DC Superhero GirlsDC Comics said Wednesday that it is teaming with Mattel, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Consumer Products to unveil a whole new line of products and media aimed at girls aged 6 to 12.

The new project, called DC Super Hero Girls, will begin to roll out this fall. It will focus on well-known characters such as Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn and Supergirl, among others, only they will be redesigned as teenagers.

At first, DC Super Hero Girls will include what the company calls an immersive digital experience, along with original digital content and digital publishing that would enable customizable play. A toy line, TV specials and other product lines will follow next year.

Mattel executive Richard Dickson said the companies believe the franchise will “engage and inspire girls, providing cues to explore heroic acts through play and into real life.”

The characters will also be featured in products from Random House and the Lego Group, DC said.
