A new take on the classic fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk” is on the way from Walt Disney Pictures. Deadline is reporting that the studio has secured the rights to Beanstalk, a revisionist take on the story conceived by “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” mastermind Vince Gilligan. The outlet notes that Gilligan has provided a detailed outline for the feature, which is now being scripted by Thomas Schnauz. Schnauz has previously won two Emmy Awards for his work with Gilligan on “Breaking Bad.”

The story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” dates back centuries and the tale has been brought to the silver screen in several different forms. Disney released an animated version that featured Mickey Mouse in the Jack role as part of their 1947 feature Fun and Fancy Free. Plot elements from the tale also played a major role in Disney’s recent musical Into the Woods. New Line Cinema also had a recent take with Bryan Singer’s 2013 feature Jack the Giant Slayer.

Gilligan currently serves as writer and executive producer on both “Better Call Saul” and “Battle Creek.” Although he’s not currently attached to direct Beanstalk, it is noted that the potential is there. He is will definitely produce, however, alongside Mark Johnson
