Nokia today said it intends to cut about 70 jobs from its Technologies unit.
“Nokia Technologies has revised its long-term strategy and will consequently reshape [the] organization. As part of this, talks have been initiated with the staff,” said a Nokia spokesperson.
The Technologies unit within Nokia was responsible for creating the N1 tablet, and is believed to be working on smartphone designs that may reach the market in 2016. It is the smallest of Nokia’s three main businesses and employs only about 650 people globally. Nokia didn’t say to what extent the unit’s strategy has been changed.
Nokia’s main business is telecommunications networking gear. Nokia is also evaluating the future of its HERE Maps unit.
