“Glee” actor Harry Shum Jr. will play a centuries-old warlock in the ABC Family series “Shadowhunters.” Based on the adult fantasy book series “Mortal Instruments” by Cassandra Claire, “Shadowhunters” follows an 18-year-old girl who discovers that she comes from a long line of human-angel hybrids who hunt demons.
Shum’s character, named Magnus Bane, is the high warlock of Brooklyn with eccentric style. He is wise, fierce, cunning and keeps his cards close to his chest. Despite his youthful appearance, he has been alive for hundreds of years.
Shum previously showcased his dance moves as Mike Chang in the Fox show “Glee” which recently finished its sixth and final season.
“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film, with Ed Decter and McG serving as executive producers. McG will direct the pilot. Other previously announced series regulars include Katherine McNamara (Clary Fray), Dominic Sherwood (Jace Wayland), Alberto Rosende (Simon), Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle Lightwood), Matthew Daddario (Alec Lightwood), Isaiah Mustafa (Luke Garroway) and Alan Van Sprang (Valentine).
